Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you rank?  To be eligible for ranking, participating teams must be eligible to play in post season games outside their league.  This means that teams in Tier Two are not considered.  We do consider leagues who chose not to participate in post Bowl playdowns or which are not situated in one single bowl region (Halimand-Norfolk).

What are the rankings based on?  To be honest, the foundation of our rankings during the regular season is based on previous season performance.  Teams at the top normally do not drop until they are defeated.  Until post season play starts, it is very unlikely that any of the top five team rankings within each region will change unless they lose.

Do you consider inter-league pre-season / exhibition games?  Not really.  Past experience indicates that coaches approach these games with different agendas and they are not a good indication of the team's abilities.

What happens in the event of a default?  Most defaults will usually result in the team being dropped from the rankings unless there are extraordinary reasons (eg: flu outbreak).  Defaults are normally a sign of small rosters and/or disinterested players.  Should a team win by default, they are not penalized.

What are your sources?  We rely heavily on email input from fans and coaches of the game across the province as well as newspaper articles that are published.

Why are some AA teams ranked?  In two regions, Western and National Capital, AA teams compete in post season play for A/AA championships outside their own league.

When are the rankings updated?  Normally, we do not rank until the season is four weeks old.  From that point forward, we tend to update as we receive information pertaining to games played.  We usually publish our provincial top fifty year end list ten to fourteen days after the last game of the season is played.
